devonport
Oh boy weren't we happy to find our land legs again! Even if it was for a quick stopover before we started our two-week leg of Tassie!
After a ten hour day sail on the Spirit of Tasmania, we arrived into Devonport just after 6:30pm. Although we weren't actually sea sick, we did feel a little nauseous and off balanced on our arrival so we drove the short distance to Mersey Bluff Caravan Park, made some quick cheese toasties, had a shower and went to bed. We were pleasantly surprised in the morning when we pulled down our blinds. Water views and sunshine! Laughing!
The caravan park had clean amenities and levelled grass sites that were tiered to share the amazing view with other campers. We used Devonport for a one night stay to repack the van with groceries thanks to our forward thinking of completing a 'Click and Collect' at the local Woolworths two days prior. By 10am, we were on our way to head towards the north-west coast of Tasmania.
Don River Railway
Since trains run in the blood, it came as no surprise that Rob and the boys sniffed out a heritage railway museum in under 12hrs of stepping foot into Tassie! And it was only 8mins away from the caravan park! We quickly parked the car, hustled to the station, bought our tickets and jumped on the vintage diesel before it departed in 5mins time! The hustle was real! At this point, the boys were frothing!
After a good 2 hours spent at Don River Railway, we then began our trip, again, to Stanley on the north-west coast. The most magical place we visited during this road-trip!
Peace + love,
