Bendalong

Bendalong

When you have mentally and emotionally exhausted yourself, the only true medicine is to prioritize time to clear the mind, relax and ground yourself in nature. We decided to run away to Bendalong to laze all day, by the beach, and in a hammock. Just the clarity our bodies and souls needed.
November rolled on in and life was just getting even more crazier. We were past exhaustion and all we were yearning for was some salt and bush therapy. We chucked a few clothes into the van and headed down to Holiday Haven Bendalong for the weekend. Bendalong is a little slice of heaven, on Yuin Country, hidden in the bush on a headland, surrounded by the ocean. Surf at the beach on one side, swim and snorkel in the bay on the other. There are resident sting rays at the boat ramp who are friendly and love it when they get a pat by fellow swimmers. The rock platforms also make a great spot for fishing.

We stayed on site 212 which was a powdered site and surrounded by a few trees. If you are looking at making a group booking, all those sites around there would be perfect! Loads of space to create your own communal areas. It was also close to amenities and the jumping pillow. As we were staying on site 212, we found a cheeky bush path that leads directly to the boat ramp and rock platforms. Just walk down towards cabin 198 and walk through the bushes. It is a steep, rugged track, that has been created purely by consistent foot traffic, so take it easy. Otherwise, the steps down to the beach is easy to access too.

The caravan park is also pet friendly with a leash free beach just past the boat ramp. Ochre just loved getting salty paws and exploring the rock pools. If you are with Optus, just be sure to complete all of the pet waivers before arrival as we found it a little tricky with broken reception.

A swimming pool was currently being built and the splash pad was also getting an upgrade. These are due to be completed by March/April of 2023. We thought that this caravan park was great, but with the new pool and splash pad, it will take it to another level. It is a short stroll to the cafe or general store where you can buy all of the essentials including fruit, vegetables and meat. There are also other supermarket items such as ice-cream, canned foods, pastas and BBQ essentials such as matches and foil trays. The cafe sells woodfired pizzas on Friday and Saturday nights.

One of the benefits of being Holiday Haven members is the late check out of 2pm! Nothing beats a slow Sunday morning in the van. Membership is only $20 for 2 years and you receive 10% off your bookings (up to $40). It is worth the money! This is a brilliant spot to stay, especially if you have kidlets and dogs in tow.

Peace + love,

WANDERING WILDFOLK
