harrington
What a fantastic place especially if you have kidlets and puppies in tow! A coastal town in the Mid North Coast just off the highway, that has all that you need for a stopover or holiday.
Our annual trip to Shoal Bay is no longer once we lost our summer spot while waiting for our Great Aussie caravan to be built. We absolutely love Shoal Bay but we feel like the time had come for us to explore some new places up the coast. Stretching the travel a little further meant for a stopover at Harrington so that our puppy could stretch her legs, plus it made for a slower holiday.
We decided to check-in at Big4 Colonial Holiday Park as it was dog friendly and not far from a town centre. The IGA was 3mins away and the township was a 6min drive. We couldn't fault the caravan park at all! Friendly service, generous sites with a range from powered / unpowered, grass and slab and awesome ammenities. The camp kitchen had all the mod cons with a massive deck that overlooked the pool. The heated pool was deep but also had a wading pool and spa. The best part were the dog cabanas where your pooch can chill while you swim or have dinner on the deck, saving the traditional 'paper, scissors, rock' to determine who was staying back with the dog. If you fancy cooking over coals, an outdoor bush kitchen can be found amongst the powered sites. There is also a communal fire pit perfect for cooking marshmallows.

Be sure to check out the town before you leave! There is a breakwall near the town centre. Great for a walk or a spot of fishing. Wooden poles carved into colonial people caught also our interest. They were scattered all over town. Pilot Hill Lookout is pretty spectacular, especially at sunrise. Although we could get our 21'6 caravan into the carpark, it was only achievable because no other cars were parked. There is plenty of street parking if needed.
We decided to book Harrington again on our return trip from up the coast. Our warriors just loved it! It was time to continue our adventures up to Emerald Beach.
