It was my 35th birthday and all I wanted more than anything in the world was to escape for the weekend, in the bush, by the sea, with my tribe. The best part of all was that there was no phone reception!
It is funny how your priorities change as you age. Hitting my mid-thirties was something that I was excited about, well to be honest, we just love celebrating birthdays in our household so it didn't matter the age. Something that my thirties have taught me so far is the need to make a sacred space. When I refer to as 'sacred', it comes with more of a spiritual meaning than a religious connotation. It is something that you dearly love and treat with the upmost respect, and expect others to treat carefully and respectfully. My scared space is when I am spending uninterrupted time with my tribe, preferably in nature. That is when we connect more as a family, but also connect more with ourselves.

So we ran away for the weekend to spend two nights at Big4 Racecourse Beach Tourist Park, on Yuin Country. It is situated on the NSW South Coast, roughly 30 minutes south of Ulladulla and just over half an hour north of Batemans Bay. We lucked out with site 318, a little sandy but perfect for us. We had the creek and bushland behind us and could see the ocean between the trees. To the other side of us was the children's playground, jumping pillow and pool, and the amenities block wasn't far away either. Kangaroos are resident locals in the caravan park which our warriors loved! There is also a Holey Moley themed putt putt course. An IGA supermarket, butchers, baker and newsagents is located just down the road at Bawley Point (Aboriginal meaning is Brown Snake).
Racecourse Beach is stunning to walk along, with rock pools found at the southern end of the beach near Shelly Point. There is also a hidden path that connects Racecourse Beach with Kioloa Beach. There were a few locals surfing at the north end of Kioloa Beach and it made for a better place for us to swim during our stay.Just a 15 minute walk from the caravan park (or a 2 minute drive in the car) is the Murramarang Aboriginal Area walking track. There is a lagoon north of the headland that tells of the Dreamtime story of the serpent that created the land. Along the walk you pass middens that have been dated back as far back as 10 thousand years, and Aboriginal sites that are rich with cultural history. The walking track is 2.2km and is fairly easy with some slight slopes. Nothing that stopped the warriors.
It was great to see the visitors returning to the South Coast after the bushfires of 2019-2020. Add Racecourse Beach to your list of weekend getaways!
Peace + love,
