merry beach
'Merry Beach, Merry Beach, Merry Beach Caravan and Resort, 1, 2, 3! Have fun in the sun at Merry Beach Caravan and Resort!' When you grew up with this jingle, you question why did we ever leave it so long to stay here! 'Book now for the holiday of your life!'
We are still puzzled as to why we left it until we were in our mid-thirties to stay at Merry Beach Caravan and Resort! Merry Beach is 30mins south of Ulladulla and 40mins north of Batemans Bay. We were staying on Yuin Country and acknowledged the salt water ancestors who walked before us. The caravan park is beachfront, with many powered sites available that overlook the water. We were staying on site 5 which was powered and directly opposite the children's playground. When we stay again, we will be trying to book any of the powered sites from 16-22 as it is closer to the amenities block and they have more beachfront views. This caravan park is also dog friendly!
Water isn't supplied to the sites but you can fill up a jerry can from any of the taps marked with blue paint to refill your caravan water tank. All other water in ammenities blocks and laundry is bore water. Showers are also free but are timed. The water will turn off after a few minutes. You just need to reset the timer if you need longer, but the time is rather generous. Campfires are allowed only if they are they are in contained fire vessels and off the ground. The caravan park is rather family friendly with a resort styled swimming pool (non-heated), children's playground and lots of streets within the park to ride their bikes and scooters.
There is no phone reception if you're with Optus but there is limited reception with Telstra. There is enough to make phone calls and message people. There is free WIFI provided. All we did during our 3 night stay was chilled out and made the most of this restful time before school went back. We went on a bushwalk along the Pretty Beach to Snapper Point Walking Track. The walk was manageable with our two warriors in tow. You walk up along the cliff-face which includes some sets of stairs. The view is spectacular and would be perfect for whale watching! There is a heap of bush tucker and medicine along the way. Once you reach Pretty Beach, you can walk through the bush along the adjoining bush track or along the road. We spent every night in front of the campfire, roasting marshmallows and star gazing. There is also some rock platforms to explore and wildlife galore.
Are you needing some supplies? There is the Merry Beach Store and Takeaway where you can buy all of your staples and those things that you forgot to pack but wished that you did like beach toys, ice-cream, frozen pizzas, marshmallows and pig fart bubblegum (a winner for our warriors)! You can also order fish and chips, burgers, wraps and coffees from here. From the caravan park, just shoot through the bush track that starts from the carpark just past the rickety bridge and it will bring you out right at the shop. If coastal living is doing it for you, check out Saltwood Cafe and Lifestyle store. You can purchase beautiful coastal homewares and apparel or order a bite to eat at the cafe. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it's the place to escape the campground for a cheeky meal out and fancy bevies, or a virgin mojito for my fellow non-drinkers!
We totally underestimated this place! And knowing that it is dog friendly all year round, we will be coming back with our dog Cohen in tow.
Peace + love,
